Top Sports Headphones Maker Yurbuds Acquired By Harman

St-Louis-based sports headphone company Yurbuds has been acquired by leading audio group Harman International Industries. Good for them!

Yurbuds, who makes in-the-ear and behind-the-ear headphones that are ergonomically designed specifically for athletes, are currently selling their many styles at more than 750 active lifestyle specialty retailers and they claim to be the U.S. market leader in sports headphones.

The company was founded in 2008 by Seth Burgett and Richard Daniels, both active triathletes. Their own issues with earbuds on the market at the time, prompted them to build a better mousetrap, which in the end, led to over 60 patents — including their TwistLock technology.

This portfolio bolstered by consumer research from Yurbuds that “shows that more than 70 percent of consumers won’t work out without music but nearly 90 percent say their headphones hurt or fall out” makes this a smart acquisition by Harman.
